Sandor Vago

Sandor Vago (1887–1946) was a Hungarian-American painter. He was born in Hungary and studied art in Budapest and Munich. Before World War I he exhibited across Europe, including Vienna and Venice. In 1921 he moved to the United States and opened a studio in Cleveland, Ohio, where he joined the Cleveland Society of Artists. He began with still lifes and landscapes but became known for his portraits, receiving commissions from private collectors and the City of Cleveland. He taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art from 1929 to 1935 and was a leading member of the Cleveland School. He died in 1946.
