D. Selvaraj
D. Selvaraj, also known as Oorvasi Selvaraj, was an Indian politician and a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He served as vice-president of the South Chennai unit of the Indian National Congress from 1990 to 1997. He later joined the Tamil Maanila Congress when it was formed by G. K. Moopanar and later returned to the INC. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly in 2006 as an INC candidate from Srivaikuntam. At the time of his election, affidavits showed he was the third-richest MLA in the assembly. Selvaraj was born in Maranthalai, Thoothukudi district. He was often called Oorvasi Selvaraj, a name linked to his involvement with a low-price detergent. He died of a heart attack on 5 July 2009, at age 58. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
