If You Ain’t Lovin’ You Ain’t Livin’ is the eighth studio album by American country singer George Strait. It was released on February 22, 1988, by MCA Records and was recorded in September 1987 at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville. The album runs 28 minutes and 20 seconds and features neotraditional country and honky-tonk music. Jimmy Bowen produced the project with Strait. It sits in Strait’s discography after Greatest Hits Volume Two (1987) and before Beyond the Blue Neon (1989). The album was certified platinum by the RIAA.
Three singles from the album topped the Hot Country Songs chart: the title track “If You Ain’t Lovin’ (You Ain’t Livin’)” (originally recorded by Faron Young), “Baby Blue,” and “Famous Last Words of a Fool” (originally recorded by Dean Dillon). The singles were released in 1988: “Famous Last Words of a Fool” on January 11, “Baby Blue” on April 25, and “If You Ain’t Lovin’ (You Ain’t Livin’)” on August 22.
