Kyle Freeland
Kyle Freeland is an American left-handed pitcher for the Colorado Rockies. He was born in Denver in 1993, played college baseball at Evansville, and was drafted eighth overall by the Rockies in 2014. He made his MLB debut in 2017 and earned his first win that year.
Freeland’s breakout came in 2018, when he went 17–7 with a 2.85 ERA in 33 starts and helped the Rockies in the postseason, including a scoreless start in the Wild Card game. He signed a five-year contract extension with Colorado in 2022. Since then he has had mixed results: a 6–14 record with a 5.03 ERA in 2023; a rough April 2024 followed by an elbow injury and a return that year to post a 3.96 ERA over 17 starts.
Freeland played for the United States in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Off the field, he married in 2021 and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. He and his wife donated $3 million to Evansville in 2024 for a new clubhouse, and Evansville retired his number 21 in 2025. His career MLB stats through 2025 include a 65–90 record with a 4.54 ERA and 944 strikeouts.
