Star Birds is a 2025 factory simulation and resource management game about asteroid mining. It is developed by Toukana Interactive in collaboration with Kurzgesagt. The game entered early access on September 10, 2025. The project began with a collaboration announced in March 2024 and was originally codenamed Project Mango; it was revealed on June 9 at the PC Gaming Show. The two studios first met in 2022 at Gamescom. The art style mirrors Kurzgesagt’s bright, animated look.

Players control birds, the same characters seen in Kurzgesagt videos, who aim to build an interstellar empire and gather resources. The core loop involves mining materials from asteroids and using them in factories to complete quests. Resources are processed by creating networks of pipes that cannot cross each other, so space planning is important. Asteroids are procedurally generated, and each one has limited building space.

After finishing the current set of quests, the birds move to a new star system with different materials and new tasks. There is an in-game wiki for recipes and manufacturing steps.

Reception and impressions: PC Gamer said the game starts easy but becomes quite complex. ComicBook.com praised the visuals and design but felt the story doesn’t connect well to the gameplay. GameLuster described it as a low-stress, beginner-friendly entry into automation management games. On Steam, Star Birds has an overwhelmingly positive rating (about 95% positive). More than 200,000 people tried the free Steam demo in early 2025.

Release timeline: a full version is expected 6–12 months after early access.
