Deerfield Township is a rural area in Steele County, Minnesota. It covers about 35.9 square miles, with 35.6 square miles of land and 0.3 square miles of water. The township was organized in 1858. As of the 2000 census, 693 people lived there, in 228 households and 189 families. The population density was about 19.5 people per square mile. A notable person born in Deerfield Township is John S. Biersdorf, a farmer, businessman, and politician.

Demographics and economy: The community was predominantly White (about 98%), with small numbers of Asian and other races, and roughly 1.6% Hispanic or Latino. There were 228 households; 43.4% had children under 18, 75.9% were married couples, 3.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.1% were non-families. The average household size was 3.04 and the average family size was 3.37. The population was spread with a median age of 33 years; 32.6% were under 18, 8.5% were 18–24, 28.4% were 25–44, 23.1% were 45–64, and 7.4% were 65 or older. For every 100 females, there were 106.3 males.

Income and poverty: The median household income was $52,727 and the median family income was $56,333. Males had a median income of $35,893 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income was $17,872. About 1.6% of families and 3.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.8% of those under 18 and 5.1% of those 65 or over.
