The hennu boat, also called the Sokar barque, is a symbol of the Memphis god Sokar. In different periods it was imagined as sailing toward dawn or toward dusk. In the Pyramid Texts of Unas, the dead’s journey includes descending on bronze ropes, carried by Horus, as the name "Being in the Hennu barque" is invoked. On Sokar’s festival, a stone image of the god was placed on the Hennu barque and pulled on a sled across fields, with people following and wearing garlands of onions. A harpist’s song from the tomb of Djehutimes (TT 32) describes Sokar being pulled that way, placing the Hennu barque on its sled and going around the walls with followers. Sometimes the Hennu barque is identified with Sokar himself, such as in inscriptions from pYuya (pKairo CG 51189) where it says "I have appeared as Hennu," followed a line later by "I have appeared as Sokar."
