Hair Brained

Hair Brained is a 2013 American fantasy comedy-drama directed by Billy Kent and starring Brendan Fraser and Alex Wolff. The story follows 14-year-old genius Eli Pettifog, who, after being rejected by Harvard, ends up at Whittman College, an Ivy League–wannabe. There he teams up with Leo Searly, a 41-year-old freshman and former gambler who has checked out of life. The unlikely pair form a quirky, coming-of-age friendship.

The film runs 97 minutes and premiered in Brooklyn on May 31, 2013, with Vertical Entertainment distributing it.

Reception was mixed. Rotten Tomatoes reports 22% positive reviews from 18 critics, while Metacritic gives it 48 out of 100 based on 8 reviews. Some critics found it pleasant and charming, though not all the humor lands. Andrew Mack of Screen Anarchy said the movie is generally pleasant but not all jokes hit, and Christy Lemire of RogerEbert.com gave it 1 out of 4 stars, calling it contrived and overly quirky.
