Meda or the Not So Bright Side of Things
Meda or the Not So Bright Side of Things (Romanian: Meda sau Partea nu prea fericită a lucrurilor) is a 2017 Romanian drama film written and directed by Emanuel Pârvu. It stars Șerban Pavlu as Doru, a widowed lumberjack living in a remote village, and Ana Radu as Meda, his foster daughter. To prevent Meda from being sent back to the orphanage, Doru must earn enough money, despite his difficult life. This is Pârvu’s feature debut.
The film premiered on 15 August 2017 at the Sarajevo Film Festival, where Pârvu won the Heart of Sarajevo Award for Best Director and Pavlu won Best Actor. It was released in Romania on 24 November 2017. The running time is 82 minutes, it’s in Romanian, and had a budget of €1,060,800. Production companies were DaKINO Production and FamArt Production.
At the 2018 Gopo Awards, Meda received nominations for Best Film, Best Actor (Pavlu), Best Cinematography (Silviu Stavilă), and Best Directorial Debut (Pârvu), but did not win any.
