Guernsey Border Agency (GBA)

The Guernsey Border Agency is the island’s law enforcement body for tackling cross-border crime and running customs and immigration for the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It covers Guernsey and its islands (Alderney, Sark, Herm). Formed in 1975 as an integrated customs and immigration service, it now also handles financial crime and drugs, in support of the Guernsey Police.

- Assets: a cutter; can call on mutual aid from French customs and UK Border Force aircraft and vessels

- Enforce customs, excise, gambling rules and immigration
- Tackle cross-border crime and support financial crime and drug enforcement
- Officers have powers of arrest, search and detention (they do not carry firearms)

- Marine duties: baseball caps and life jackets
- Formal dress: traditional British customs officer uniform used for court and ceremonies

- Customs Officer (Grade 3): £28,441 to £40,102

Management and policy
- Strategy and policy are handled separately by the Home Department and a law enforcement commission
- The GBA carries out day-to-day enforcement and operations.
