Boris Quercia
Boris Quercia Martinic (born 31 August 1967 in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean actor, director, writer and producer. He studied acting at the University of Chile and helped found the Teatro Provisorio company, which became Gran Circo Teatro, led by Andrés Pérez. He became known in theater for his role as Roberto Parra Sandoval in La negra Ester.
As a filmmaker, his early work includes the shorts Ñoquis (1995) and El lanza (1997), before releasing L.S.D. (2000), Chile’s first digital feature. His first full-length film, Sex with Love, earned the Altazor Award for Best Director and other international honors. His second feature, El rey de los huevones, came out in 2006. He writes all his own screenplays.
In television, he directed the first five seasons (2008–2012) of Los 80, one of Chile’s most successful series. He later left to act in the Chilean remake of El hombre de tu vida, a difficult but personal decision.
As a writer, his first novel Santiago Quiñones, tira was published in 2010. His second detective novel, Perro muerto, appeared in France in 2015 and won the Grand Prix du roman noir (for foreign novels) at the Beaune International Festival in 2016. He plans a trilogy and a TV series based on the detective. His brother Antonio Quercia is a director of photography, and they have collaborated on several projects, including El hombre de tu vida.
