Grupo Leya
Grupo Leya is a Portuguese book publishing company founded in January 2007. It was created as a holding company that brings together some of the biggest publishers from Portugal and Brazil, along with two large African publishers. The company is based in Lisbon and serves Portugal, Brazil, Angola, and Mozambique.
Grupo Leya is the largest general-interest trade book publisher in Portugal and also publishes fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and many textbooks. The chairman is Miguel Pais do Amaral, and the CEO roles are held by Tiago Morais Sarmento and Isaías Gomes Teixeira. About 500 people work there. The website is leya.com.
Notable authors represented include well-known Portuguese-speaking writers such as Lobo Antunes and José Eduardo Agualusa. In 2008, Isaías Gomes Teixeira announced a revenue target of around 90 million euros and a plan to publish about 1,000 different books that year.
In January (announced in August 2011), Trilantic Capital Partners purchased a minority stake in Grupo Leya for about 66 million dollars.
