Santiago de Chuco is one of twelve provinces in the La Libertad region of Peru. Its capital is the city of Santiago de Chuco. The province covers about 2,659 square kilometers and had around 57,500 people in 2005. It is divided into eight districts.

History and key facts:
In July 1610, settlers founded a village that would become the capital and a center for mining and farming. The city church was inaugurated on July 25, 1616, and the town was given the name Santiago de Chuco. After many efforts by local leaders, Santiago de Chuco was made a province on November 3, 1900.
