Frederick Taylor (cricketer)
Frederick Taylor (29 April 1916 – 18 June 1999) was an English cricketer who played mainly for Staffordshire in the Minor Counties Championship. Born in Leek, Staffordshire, he was a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler.
Taylor played for Staffordshire from 1937 to 1951, appearing in 29 Minor Counties matches and taking 124 wickets. He had eight five-wicket hauls, with his best season in 1946 when he took 37 wickets in eight games. He also appeared in two first-class matches: for Warwickshire in 1937 against Cambridge University (three wickets) and for a combined Minor Counties team in 1953 against the touring Australians (five wickets in the first innings). In total, his two first-class matches yielded eight wickets at 17.75, with a best of 5 for 71, and he scored eight runs.
His father, Charles Taylor, also played first-class cricket. He died in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, in 1999.
