Gornje Retje
Gornje Retje is a small settlement in central Slovenia, in the Municipality of Velike Lašče. It covers about 0.97 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of around 584 meters. In 2002, 21 people lived there.
The Ljubljana–Kočevje railway and the road from Velike Lašče to Ribnica pass through the village. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.
The name means “upper Retje,” distinguishing it from nearby Dolnje Retje, or “lower Retje.” The name Retje comes from an old demonym referring to a higher dry area in damp ground. Older sources also used the name Gorenje Retje, and in German it was known as Oberretje.
