George Washington Payne (May 23, 1889 – January 24, 1959) was an American baseball pitcher. He was right-handed, born in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, and died in Long Beach, California.

Payne played in Major League Baseball in 1920 for the Chicago White Sox. He appeared in 16 games, all as a relief pitcher. His MLB record was 1 win and 1 loss, with 7 strikeouts and an earned run average of 5.46. His first MLB game was May 8, 1920, and his last was October 3, 1920.

He had a long minor league career that lasted 28 years. He started in 1913 with the Charleston Sea Gulls (one game) and ended in 1940 with the Worthington Cardinals, where he managed and pitched in nine games at age 51.

In the Texas League, Payne played for the Wichita Falls Spudders (1927–1929) and the Houston Buffaloes (1930–1934). He won 20 games three times in eight seasons, including a 28-win season in 1929. He was inducted into the Texas League Hall of Fame in 2006.
