George Alfred Baitsell
George Alfred Baitsell (1885 – September 24, 1971) was an American biologist and a professor of biology at Yale University. He was active in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and wrote several science books. Born in Iowa, he was the son of John Albert Baitsell and Amanda Clammer and had siblings Bessie, John Merrill, and Carl Merrill. He married Dorothy Morton Horning and they had two children, John Morton Baitsell and Dorothy “DeeDee” Baitsell. He earned a B.S. from the Central University of Iowa in 1908 and an M.A. from Yale in 1909; his 1914 Yale thesis was titled Experiments on the reproduction of the Hypotrichous Infusoria. He died in Winter Park, Florida.
