Farida Rahman was a Bangladeshi educationist and politician from the Awami League. She became the first woman to sit in Bangladesh’s Parliament, elected to the reserved Women’s Seat-5 in the first National Assembly after the Liberation War, representing Jessore and Kushtia.

She served on the Special Privileges Standing Committee and helped in drafting laws and solving public problems. In the second session of Parliament (June 14, 1973), she spoke about weaknesses in the railway system, such as ticketless travel, and urged concrete action and a survey to identify travelers without tickets.

Rahman also asked government ministers about foreign adoptions, the number of foreign embassies in Bangladesh, and scholarships, calling for transparency in scholarship programs, including those for women.

On September 26, 1973, she introduced the Bangladesh Girl Guides Association Bill, highlighting that Girl Guides teach girls self-reliance, organization, and good values.

She was part of Bangladesh’s first Parliament after independence and actively contributed to education and women’s development.
