ACLEDA Bank Plc is a private Cambodian bank that started in 1993. It is based in Phnom Penh and has grown from helping war victims with microcredit to becoming Cambodia’s largest domestic commercial bank. The bank operates 261 offices across Cambodia, with additional branches in Laos (42) and Myanmar (7).

By the end of 2017, ACLEDA had more than $5.2 billion in total assets, over $3.1 billion in deposits, and about $3.1 billion in loans. The bank was also serving more than 1.7 million depositors, making it a major financial player in the region.

Key people leading ACLEDA include In Channy (President & GMD), So Phonnary (EVP & GCOO), Ma Amara (EVP & GCFO), and Chhay Soeun (Chairman). ACLEDA stands for the Association of Cambodian Local Economic Development Agencies.

ACLEDA expanded outside Cambodia starting with Laos in 2008, becoming the first Cambodian bank to operate there. After Myanmar opened up to international finance in 2012, ACLEDA opened a microfinance license and began operating a Burmese subsidiary in 2013, with seven offices in Yangon and Bago.

ACLEDA Securities Plc. is the bank’s affiliated securities brokerage, offering brokerage services to individual and institutional clients.

Ownership is split with 51% Cambodian interests (including bank staff) and 49% held by foreign investors. Foreign shareholders include Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, COFIBRED (the Cambodian subsidiary of a French bank), ORIX Corporation, and three Triodos Foundation funds. Through ASA, ACLEDA’s employees and select investors participate in long-term growth, holding about 25% of the bank’s issued shares. In 2010, Leopard Cambodia Fund acquired a stake in ASA.

ACLEDA was the first Cambodian bank to receive a rating from Standard & Poor’s, a landmark for the country’s banking sector.
