English Language School "Geo Milev" (Ruse)
English Language School Geo Milev in Ruse, Bulgaria, is a state high school focused on English and other foreign languages. It was founded in 1963 and currently has over 500 students. The head teacher is Margarita Yanakieva. The school is located at Blvd Alei Vazrazhdane 3, Ruse, in a building protected as a cultural heritage site by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. It is an accredited member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project.
The building was constructed in 1908 for the French Catholic School Notre Dame de Sion, which taught girls in French in small classes and welcomed students from different backgrounds. After Bulgaria joined the Soviet sphere in 1944, the school was closed and reopened in 1963 as English Language School Geo Milev.
Today the school has four classes with intensive English and a second foreign language (French, German or Russian). Many graduates go on to higher education and successful careers.
