Emmet County is a county in Iowa. The county seat and biggest city is Estherville. It was created in 1851 and organized in 1859, and it is named after the Irish patriot Robert Emmet.

Geography and population: The county covers about 402.5 square miles, with roughly 395.9 square miles of land and 6.6 square miles of water (about 1.65% water). The population was 9,388 at the 2020 census, with an estimated 9,162 in 2024. The population density is about 24 people per square mile. About 61–62% of residents live in towns or cities, while about 38–39% live in rural areas. The median age is in the mid-40s.

Demographics and housing: The racial makeup is mostly White (about 89%), with small numbers of other races. Hispanic or Latino residents account for about 9–10%. There are around 3,972 households and 4,475 housing units, with roughly 78% of homes owner-occupied. Emmet County uses Central Time and lies in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.
