Devonshire (East Indiaman)

Four ships carried the name Devonshire. Named after the county of Devon in England, each served the British East India Company as an East Indiaman. These were large, sturdy sailing ships used on long voyages between Britain and Asia. The Devonshires carried goods and sometimes passengers on trips to India, Southeast Asia, and China, bringing back items like textiles, spices, tea, and porcelain. The four vessels had different lifespans—some made many trips, while others were lost, sold, or dismantled over time.
