Derryn Hinch
Derryn Nigel Hinch (born 9 February 1944) is a New Zealand–born Australian media personality, journalist, actor and author. He is best known for his long career on Melbourne radio and television and for his blunt style in reporting crime.
Hinch entered politics in 2015 and founded Derryn Hinch's Justice Party. He was elected as a Senator for Victoria in 2016, becoming the oldest person to enter the Australian Parliament as a new member at age 72. He served as a senator from 2016 to 2019, and his party remained in existence until 2023 when it was dissolved after he left Parliament.
Throughout his career, Hinch has been a controversial figure due to his campaigns to publicize criminal cases. He has been convicted of contempt of court several times, spending time in prison and in house detention for breaches of court orders. These episodes are a notable part of his public profile.
On the personal side, Hinch has been married four times and has had several significant partnerships. He currently resides in Melbourne with his long-time partner, Lynda Stoner. He identifies as an atheist and has faced serious health challenges, including liver disease and a liver transplant in 2011. He has supported tougher crime penalties and has opposed the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
