Snapdragon Stadium
Snapdragon Stadium is a multi‑use arena in San Diego, built on the SDSU Mission Valley campus. Ground was broken in August 2020, and it opened on August 19, 2022. The stadium cost about $310 million, seats 35,000 fans, and can be expanded to 55,000 for bigger events. It’s located on a 166‑acre expansion area west of SDSU’s main campus and is accessible by the San Diego Trolley at the SDSU Transit Center.
The venue is home to San Diego State University Aztecs football and several professional teams: San Diego Wave FC of the NWSL (starting in 2022), San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby (2023–2024), and San Diego FC of MLS (starting in 2025). The Holiday Bowl also moved there in 2024.
During planning, the stadium was known as Aztec Stadium. It was renamed Snapdragon Stadium after a naming rights deal with Qualcomm, and the playing surface is Bashor Field, named for a donor. The project replaced the old SDCCU Stadium site after it was demolished.
Notable events include the Aztecs’ first scrimmage (August 20, 2022) and first regular‑season game (September 3, 2022). The San Diego Wave set attendance records for its 2022 debut, with 32,000 announced in attendance. Snapdragon Stadium has hosted events beyond football and soccer, such as lacrosse (including the NLL’s first outdoor box lacrosse game in 2023 and the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship), Monster Jam, and AMA Supercross, along with concerts and other activities at Thrive Park nearby. San Diego FC played its first MLS game at the stadium on March 1, 2025, drawing 34,506 fans—the largest crowd in the venue’s history, and it later hosted playoff games as well.
