Deferribacter desulfuricans is a thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium that can reduce sulfur, nitrate, and arsenate to obtain energy. It was first isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent and is heterotrophic (it uses organic compounds for food). The species belongs to the genus Deferribacter in the Deferribacterota phylum. Its type strain is SSM1T (also listed as JCM 11476T and DSM 14783T). Its genome is about 2.23 million base pairs long and contains roughly 2,184 protein-coding genes.
