Thinouia is a genus of flowering plants in the soapberry family (Sapindaceae). It belongs to the Sapindoideae subfamily and the Paullinieae tribe.

Where it grows: Native to Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama) and parts of South America (northern Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela).

The name: It honors French botanist André Thouin (1747–1824).

First described: George Bentham described Thinouia in 1845 (Journal of Botany, volume 4, page 633).
