Al Maya Group
Al Maya Group is a UAE-based retailer founded in 1982 by L. K. Pagarani and based in Dubai. It runs supermarkets across the UAE and Qatar, with about 40 outlets in the UAE. The group expanded by acquiring and licensing brands: in 1985 it secured the British Home Stores franchise for the Northern Emirates, and in 2016 it bought the global rights to the BHS name (now only one store remains in Qatar). It also partnered with Borders: a GCC franchise was signed in 2006, and in 2015 lifetime rights to the Borders brand in the Middle East were acquired, turning it into a range that includes books, toys and stationery. The company employs around 1,000 to 5,000 people and operates under the Al Maya Supermarket and British Home Stores brands.
