Clackriach Castle

Clackriach Castle was a 16th‑century tower house in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It stood about 11 miles north of Ellon and 1 mile southeast of Maud, beside the South Ugie Water. The Keith family owned the castle.

Today only the northeast corner remains, about 7 meters high. The surviving north wall is roughly 2.7 meters long and includes part of a window. Inside the corner you can see the remains of a staircase. The walls were built with rubble and lime mortar and the castle stood on a slight rise. It was an oblong building with a projecting wing, a turreted staircase, and arched doorway and window, with evidence of these features lasting into the 1800s.

Nearby is the Mill of Clackriach, dating from about 1827; by 1990 its brick kiln was partly fallen in. Mill House nearby is of a similar age. Windhill Farm, from the 18th century, sits high on the slopes of the Hill of Dens. It is a compact farmhouse with chimneys, large granite supports, a big porch, and pantiled outbuildings.
