Abderrahmane Kaki
Abdelkader Ould Abderrahmane, known as Abderrahmane Kaki, was an Algerian actor, playwright, author and theater director. He was born on February 18, 1934, in Mostaganem, Algeria, in the Tidjitt neighborhood, and died on February 14, 1995, in Oran.
Throughout his career, he wrote and directed about twenty plays. He grew up surrounded by strong cultural traditions: his grandmother could recall many stories, and one of his uncles loved music. He took part in popular festivals where storytellers met Bedouin musicians, and he played with the children of the famous singer Cheikh Hamada.
In the first decade after Algeria gained independence, Kaki was one of the most active and influential figures in theatre. His budding rise was interrupted by a car accident in 1968, which kept him away from the stage for four years. He later became the director of the Théâtre Régional d'Oran.
Notable work: the play "132 ans."
