Bono Region
The Bono Region is one of Ghana’s 16 administrative regions. It was created on December 27, 2018, from the Brong-Ahafo Region after Bono East and Ahafo regions were carved out. Its capital is Sunyani, known as the green city and a popular conference destination.
The region covers about 11,113 square kilometers and features a relatively flat landscape, with elevations not exceeding about 152 meters. It has fertile soil and moist semi-deciduous forest. Bono borders the Savannah Region to the north, Bono East to the east, Ahafo to the south, and the Côte d’Ivoire border to the west.
Around 1.21 million people live in Bono (2021 census), giving a population density of roughly 109 people per square kilometer. The economy focuses on cash crops like cashew and timber, along with food crops such as maize, cassava, plantain, cocoyam, and tomatoes.
Administratively, the region is served by 12 local assemblies (5 municipal and 7 ordinary). Each assembly is headed by a chief executive, and the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (BRCC) oversees regional administration under the Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development. The region is rich in culture, with various festivals and traditions celebrated by its communities.
