William Higgins, also known as "Wim Hof" (December 19, 1942 – December 21, 2019), was an American independent director of gay pornographic films who based his business in the Czech Republic from 1996. He started his career in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after companies refused to mail gay porn to some southeastern states for legal reasons. He later said that gay porn was "so bad" that he decided to make them himself. In 1978 he was arrested and his studio raided, but the charges were dropped, and he began a world tour to find a more favorable legal climate. After passing on Australia and Thailand, he settled in Amsterdam with his distributor and later moved to Prague for lower costs. He did not plan to return to the United States. His first film, A Married Man, was released in 1974, and he produced more than 140 titles. His work won Grabby Awards and he is in the GayVN Awards Hall of Fame. He founded Catalina Video. Higgins died of a heart attack on December 21, 2019.
