Best Thing is the first single by Styx from their 1972 debut album, Styx. Released in July 1972 in the United States, the track runs 3 minutes 13 seconds and is credited to Dennis DeYoung and James Young. It reached No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100. Critics noted its vocal harmonies and tight organ and guitar work; Cash Box called it a dynamic, searing track, and Record World praised its percussion, organ riffs and harmonies. The song also appeared on the 1979 US reissue of Styx's fourth album, Man of Miracles.
