Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Déportation
Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Déportation was created on 17 October 1990 at the initiative of French Prime Minister Michel Rocard and the former Minister of the Interior. Based in Paris, it acts as a support organization for unions and associations that deal with the deportations and imprisonments carried out by the Nazis and the Vichy regime in France from 1940 to 1945. The foundation is a partner of the Austrian Service Abroad and the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service. Its rules are set by an 18-member council with representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Finance, and other public bodies. Since March 2009, Yves Lescure has been the head of the foundation. The foundation supports the work of former internees and their families and aims to keep the memory of their experiences alive for future generations through education, remembrance, and collaborations with other groups.
