Shintaro Ito
Shintaro Ito (伊藤 信太郎), born May 6, 1953, in Tokyo, is a Japanese politician from the Liberal Democratic Party. He has represented Miyagi’s 4th district in the House of Representatives. Ito studied at Keio University, earning master’s degrees, and also studied at Harvard University, plus a program at the American Film Institute. In 1988, he helped develop a political video game called America Daitōryō Senkyo.
He was first elected to the Diet in 2001 and served until 2009. He returned to the House in 2012 and served again until 2024. In Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government, Ito was Minister of the Environment from September 13, 2023, to October 1, 2024, and also served as Minister in the Cabinet Office for Special Tasks (Nuclear Disaster Prevention) during the same cabinet. He is the son of former politician Soichiro Ito.
