Barry Hancock
Barry John Hancock (30 December 1938 – 10 September 2013) was an English footballer who played as an inside forward. Born in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, he grew up supporting Port Vale and even sold matchday programmes at Vale Park. He started at Birches Head R.C. and joined Port Vale as an amateur, turning professional in 1957. Hancock made his first-team debut on 24 April 1961 against Stoke City in the final replay of the Supporters' Clubs' Trophy.
Most of his league football was with Port Vale, where he made about 21 league appearances and scored one goal. He later played for Crewe Alexandra (three league games) and then for non-league Stafford Rangers. All in all, he played around 24 league games in the English Football League and scored one goal, his only senior strike coming in a 1–1 draw with Mansfield Town on 9 September 1963.
After leaving Vale, he joined Crewe briefly, then appeared for All Blacks and Stafford Rangers, before returning to Birches Head R.C. as a referee. After retiring from playing, he again worked as a programme distributor at Vale Park.
