The Diam Diam Era Two is a 2021 Singaporean comedy directed by Jack Neo. It continues the story of the Lim family and is set during Singapore’s 1988 general election.

Plot
Lim Ah Kun (Mark Lee) grows tired of government policies and helps form a new opposition party called C.M.I. (Chinese, Malay and Indian) with Osman Bin Yusuf (Suhaimi Yusof) and Shamugam S/O Vellasami (Silvarajoo Prakasam). They compete for seats in Toa Payoh GRC, which is renamed Gim Wang GRC in the film. As the campaign heats up, Ah Kun’s and Zhao Di’s (Aileen Tan) families get pulled into the fight. Will Shun Fa (Richie Koh) and Yong Xin (Danny Lee) settle their differences? Can Ah Kun, Osman and Shamugam win?

Production and cast
The Diam Diam Era Two is part of the Diam Diam Era film series, following earlier titles such as The Diam Diam Era, Long Long Time Ago, and Long Long Time Ago 2. It features a large ensemble of Singaporean actors, including Mark Lee, Henry Thia, Wang Lei, Suhaimi Yusof, Silvarajoo Prakasam and many others. It marks the fifth on-screen reunion of Mark Lee and Suhaimi Yusof, who previously worked together in the Police & Thief series.

Themes

Director Jack Neo emphasizes that the subject matter is part of history and should be understood with the right perspective, rather than being hidden.
