Azède Jean-Pierre
Azède Jean-Pierre is a Haitian-American fashion designer and founder of the Azède Jean-Pierre label. Her work is known for innovative knitwear and modern silhouettes, and her collections have been shown at fashion weeks in New York and Paris.
She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. As a student, she earned a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) from Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and even designed a dress for the Mayor’s Mask Ball during her junior year. She later studied in Paris at the Institut Français de la Mode, earning a Master of Arts certificate with a focus on knitwear.
In 2012 she launched her New York–based label. Her designs have appeared in Vogue, InStyle, and Elle, and have been worn by Michelle Obama, Solange Knowles, Lady Gaga, Gabrielle Union, and others. Michelle Obama wore a custom dress from Jean-Pierre for the Essence magazine cover in 2012, and Jean-Pierre mentored students as part of Obama’s Reach Higher initiative in 2020.
Solange Knowles has supported Jean-Pierre since the brand’s inception; they collaborated on a fashion-show playlist in 2014, and Knowles has worn Jean-Pierre’s designs at events including Coachella.
Starting in 2017, Jean-Pierre began offering design and creative consulting for brands such as Gucci, Billy Reid, Intermix, and Pyer Moss. In 2021 she collaborated with Gucci on a capsule knitwear collection. The campaign brought together teams in New York and Milan and featured collaborators like Ibra Ake, Wyclef Jean, and Fatima Robinson, with models Alton Mason and Ebony Riley, and supported the charity Core Response.
Jean-Pierre has continued philanthropic work, including mentoring students through Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative and supporting underrepresented communities through Gucci-related charitable efforts. She often travels to Haiti to work with local artisans for inspiration and to support creative projects, a journey highlighted by Vogue.
Her work has earned her recognition in the fashion world.
