Omar Shendi
Omar Shendi (1915 – 23 April 1992) was an Egyptian football defender who spent his entire club career with Zamalek. Born in Giza, he played from 1938 to 1949.
He helped Zamalek win the Egypt Cup four times (1937–38, 1940–41, 1942–43, 1943–44) and the Cairo League seven times (1939–40, 1940–41, 1943–44, 1944–45, 1945–46, 1946–47, 1948–49). He scored once in Zamalek’s 6–0 Cairo Derby win over Al Ahly in 1942 and played in the 6–0 win over Al Ahly in the 1944 Egypt Cup final.
Shendi represented Egypt and was part of the team at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, though he did not play as Egypt was eliminated in the group stage by Austria.
After retiring in 1949, he became a coach, mainly for Zamalek’s youth teams and as an assistant for the first team. He also coached Al-Ittihad of Jeddah in 1960 and Kuwait’s Qadsia from 1963 to 1965, winning the Kuwait Emir Cup. He died in Cairo in 1992.
