Vickers Aircraft Wave
The Vickers Wave is a two-seat amphibious light-sport aircraft being developed by Vickers Aircraft Company in Hamilton, New Zealand. It was shown to the public in 2014 at the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida. The Wave is a high-wing, side-by-side design with a fuselage and wings made from aluminum and carbon-fibre composites. It is planned to include an automatic folding wing system and a ballistic parachute.
The company describes its development approach as non-traditional, pursuing simultaneous product and manufacturing development. The prototype’s first flight occurred on March 12, 2022. Initially, the Wave was to use a 180 hp Continental Titan 340 engine in a pusher configuration, but in late 2019 the plan changed to a 141 hp Rotax 915iS turbocharged engine, still in a pusher arrangement. The Wave is intended for the US light-sport aircraft category.
