Axel Sjöberg is a Swedish former footballer who played as a centre back. Born on 8 March 1991 in Stockholm, he stands 2.01 meters tall. He began playing football at four years old with Helenelunds IK and later joined Djurgårdens IF’s academy.

Sjöberg played for Sollentuna United FF in 2010, helping the club finish second in Division 2 and earning Player of the Year honors. He then moved to the United States for college, playing for the Marquette Golden Eagles from 2011 to 2014, where he appeared in 63 games, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists. He also played for Thunder Bay Chill in the Premier Development League during 2012 and 2013, earning Defender of the Year honors.

After college, Sjöberg was drafted 14th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids. He made his pro debut on 7 March 2015 and scored his first MLS goal on 21 May 2016 against the Seattle Sounders. He became a key defender for Colorado, with a standout 2016 season, before a hamstring injury in 2017.

Colorado waived him after the 2019 season, and he joined Columbus Crew SC. In 2020 he spent time on loan with San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, then was traded to D.C. United in August 2020. He returned to San Antonio FC for the 2021 season. Sjöberg announced his retirement from professional football in April 2022.
