Bright Hill MRT station
Bright Hill MRT station is an underground stop on Singapore’s Thomson–East Coast Line (TEL), located along Sin Ming Avenue in western Bishan. It serves local housing and landmarks such as Peirce Secondary School, Ai Tong School, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, and the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. The station code is TE7 and it is operated by SMRT Trains.
The station is about 20 metres deep, has four entrances, and is roughly 240 metres long. It opened on 28 August 2021 as part of TEL 2. Bright Hill is planned to become an interchange with the Cross Island Line (CRL) and will be the terminus of CRL Phase 1, which runs to Aviation Park, with completion expected around 2030.
Bright Hill is designed as a Civil Defence shelter and can accommodate up to 6,000 people in emergencies, with blast doors and air vents that can be shut in a chemical attack. The station features Art-in-Transit work A Kaleidoscopic Nature by Angie Seah in the lift shaft, inspired by nearby plants and parks.
History in brief: Bright Hill was first announced in 2012 as Sin Ming station on the Thomson Line. Construction began in 2014 after the contract was awarded to Penta-Ocean Construction, using bored piles due to hard granite. In 2014 the Thomson Line merged into the TEL, making Bright Hill part of TEL 2. TEL 2 opened in 2021 after delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CRL interchange plans were announced in 2019 and 2022, with CRL1 expected to complete by 2030.
