Callistoctopus

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Callistoctopus is a group of octopuses in the Octopodidae family. They are mostly active at night and have orange bodies. They look reddish with white bumps along their skin and have long arms. To avoid competition with day-active octopuses, they hunt at night, which is why some people call them night octopuses.

Notable species include Callistoctopus macropus, the Atlantic white-spotted octopus, and Callistoctopus ornatus, the ornate octopus. Some Callistoctopus species are eaten by people.

Scientists study their family tree using mitochondrial DNA to understand how Callistoctopus is related to other octopuses.
