Ann Reid
Ann H. Reid is an American scientist who led the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) from 2014 to 2023. She studied environmental science at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and earned a master’s degree in international studies from Johns Hopkins University. At 21, she spent three years in Paris working for the OECD. She returned to the United States to pursue medical research, starting at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and then as a molecular biologist at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, where she contributed to sequencing the 1918 influenza virus. From 2010 to 2013 she directed the American Academy of Microbiology. As NCSE’s executive director, she became a frequent spokesperson on science education and science policy, with interviews in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, CBS, and other outlets.
