In 451 AD, Attila the Hun led his army into Gaul to attack the Western Roman Empire. Strasbourg, a city in western Gaul, was attacked, burned, and destroyed. Many civilians were killed as the city fell to Attila’s forces.
Attila, known as the Scourge of God for his brutal campaigns, swept through Gaul burning towns and sacking cities. His invasion of Gaul also featured the famous Battle of the Catalaunian Plains. Strasbourg was one of the cities seized and ruined during this campaign.
