Angela Jia Kim
Angela Jia Kim is an American classical pianist born in East Lansing, Michigan, and raised in Ames, Iowa. Her mother taught her piano, and she later studied at the Eastman School of Music, with coaching from Sergei Babayan and other teachers. Her great-uncle, Kim Yong-shik, was South Korea's ambassador to the United States during the Carter and Reagan administrations, and her grandfather, Kim Yong-ik, was a celebrated writer who moved to the United States in 1948.
Kim won prizes from a young age, first at age four, and made her orchestral debut with the Des Moines Symphony at 15. She has toured the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. She won the 1991 Mozart Festival Competition grand prize and the 1997 Best Interpretation of French Music award from the French Piano Institute in Paris. She released two albums: Dances and Fantasies (2001) and From Vienna to Paris (2005). She currently lives in Manhattan with her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Sienna.
