2011–12 Scottish First Division
2011–12 Irn-Bru Scottish First Division was the 18th season of Scotland’s second-tier league. It ran from 6 August 2011 to 5 May 2012. Ross County won the title and, along with Dundee, were promoted to the Scottish Premiership. Ayr United and Queen of the South were relegated to the Second Division.
Season format and teams:
- The league had 10 teams. They played each other four times, producing 36 games per team and 180 matches in total.
- Hamilton Academical joined after being relegated from the Premier League; Livingston and Ayr United had been promoted from the Second Division. Stirling Albion finished bottom and were relegated to the Second Division.
- A promotion/relegation playoff determined another team to move between divisions; Ayr United won the playoff and earned promotion, while Cowdenbeath were relegated.
