Cry of Achilles
Cry of Achilles is a song by American rock band Alter Bridge. It was released on April 22, 2014 as the second single from their fourth album Fortress. The track runs about 6 minutes and 30 seconds and is described as progressive metal. It was written by Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips, and produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette.
Cry of Achilles, along with Addicted to Pain, appeared in the 2015 video game Guitar Hero Live. Fans could create their own music videos for the song through a GeneroTV project, and an animated video by SiLee Films was chosen as the winner.
The music video tells a mythic story: A king and queen discover a magical jewel inside a silver tree. The jewel’s power corrupts the king, who kills the queen and blames a demon and the forest. Demons invade the king’s citadel, so the king builds a Titan, powered by the jewel and his blood, to defend the city. When the king can no longer protect them, his son takes over, though the latest demon nearly overwhelms them. The princess eventually gains control of the Titan and sees how the war began. The forest wants the jewel returned to seal away the evil, and the king admits his mistake and gives the jewel to his daughter to return it to the forest.
