2011 Chatham Cup
2011 ASB Chatham Cup was New Zealand’s 84th knockout football competition. A total of 120 teams entered. The tournament started with a preliminary round, a qualification round, and four rounds before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. It was run in three regions (north, central, south) until the quarter-finals, after which the draw opened up. The final was held at Memorial Park in Palmerston North, a neutral venue in the lower North Island, on 28 August 2011, with about 3,000 spectators.
Wairarapa United won the Cup, their first title, defeating Napier City Rovers in the final. Wairarapa took the lead in the 24th minute when Seule Soromon headed in a cross from Dale Higham. Early in the second half, captain Adam Cowan hit the woodwork with a penalty. Napier equalised through Fergus Neil in the 67th minute, but Wairarapa scored a late winner through Pita Rabo. Scott Robson of Wairarapa United was named the Jack Batty Memorial Cup winner as the final’s most valuable player.
