1997 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament
From February 27 to March 2, 1997, the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina hosted the Southern Conference men’s basketball tournament. Ten teams competed, seeded by conference winning percentage, in a four-round bracket. The first round had two games, and the top three finishers in each division earned byes into the quarterfinals. Chattanooga, led by head coach Mack McCarthy, won the championship and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the 1997 NCAA tournament. One game in the tournament went to overtime.
