2010–11 Chelsea F.C. season
The 2010–11 Chelsea F.C. season was the club’s 97th competitive season and its 19th consecutive year in the Premier League. They entered as defending champions but did not win the league again. Carlo Ancelotti was the manager for the season, and Chelsea played their home games at Stamford Bridge.
In the Premier League, Chelsea finished in 2nd place. They won 21 games, drew 8 and lost 9, and they conceded the fewest goals in the league (tied with Manchester City). The team started with five straight victories but were stopped by a 1–0 defeat to Manchester City. Chelsea led the table for about half the season before Manchester United overtook them in the winter period.
In January 2011, Chelsea made two big signings: Fernando Torres joined from Liverpool for a club-record £50 million, and defender David Luiz arrived from Benfica for €25 million plus Nemanja Matić.
In cup competitions, Chelsea reached the Fourth Round of the FA Cup, the Third Round of the League Cup, and were runners-up in the FA Community Shield. In the UEFA Champions League, they reached the Quarter-finals.
Top scorers were Florent Malouda with 13 league goals, and Nicolas Anelka with 16 goals in all competitions. In the Champions League, Chelsea were drawn into a group with Marseille, Spartak Moscow, and Žilina.
At the end of the season, Carlo Ancelotti was sacked.
